Another Animation Box Office Record About to Happen

The crown for foreign b.o. is about to pass to a new king:

As of July 28, foreign coin had hit $514.7 million, leaving "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" poised to pass "Finding Nemo" ($528 million) as the top animated film on the list. And with two key markets still to open -- South Korea on Aug. 12 and Italy on Aug. 28 -- it's likely "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" will become the ninth film to go past $600 million in foreign gross.

When people want to see your movie, you can't stop them. (As of yesterday, domestic gross for IA3 was up around $176.5 million -- at the #5 position.)

So News Corp. is looking at a theatrical box office north of $800 million .... with dvd and television licensing yet to come.

Yay, we need more Dinosaur movies!
Successful animated movies is always good news, and Blue Sky hired a lot of new (temp) animators for IA3. Let's hope this encourages them to hire more for there next few films (which surely now includes a fast track of IA4).

I have heard that, unfortunately, Blue Sky doesn't benefit from international boxoffice--that goes to 20th Century Fox. Blue Sky only benefits from domestic box office.

Does anyone know if this is true? I know that such arrangements do happen in the world of movie distribution. But if this is true, that is very unfortunate for Blue Sky.

Doesn't Fox own Blue Sky anyway?

Whatever the case, congrats to Blue Sky. I haven't seen the movie yet. And honestly, I'm not a fan of the Ice Age films. However, I want it to do well.

Well, Blue Sky (as a company) benefits when Blue Sky movies do well (bankrolls our next movies and facilities and salaries, etc)

But in terms of our individual bonus pool, yes, it's only calculated from domestic box office, though in the past they've bumped the amount up a bit if its done exceptionally overseas (like IA2)

consider this a bump up!

I look for IA4 to be announced in the not too distant future.

I also foresee more Blue Sky senior talent jumping ship because they are fed up with their talent being wasted on mediocre storytelling.

But these movies sure do bring in the moolah.

Yippee!!!!

Most of the senior people left after Horton, so there really isnt much left.
